Our casale is an authentic country house: earth, nature, craftsmanship.

Here you can live a simple and true experience, away from the stressing chaos and noise of the city.

You won’t find luxurious SPA or glamorous pools, but the rustle of our walnuts, cypresses and eucalyptus trees; the songs of a hundred little birds; the view over the plowed fields, sunflowers, the quiet of the olive grove.

Between Trasimeno lake (Umbria) and Chiusi lake (Tuscany) we are in the countryside, on the Umbrian hills beyond which there is Tuscany.
Olive groves, cultivated fields and quiet country roads are the frame of our house between Valdichiana and Val d’Orcia; 10 minutes from the center of Castiglione del Lago and the beaches of Trasimeno; 30 minutes from Montepulciano, Cortona; 45 from Perugia, Arezzo; 1 hour from Assisi, Gubbio, Spello, Orvieto, Pienza; 1 hour and a half from Foligno, Spoleto, Florence, Siena; 2 hours from the Maremma sea, and from Rome.

Authentic nature, trekking and cycling, traditional foods and legendary wines, villages of history and art: we are in the ancient and green heart of Italy.

Any pet of any size is welcome: keep in mind that we have 3 cats, let us know about your pet so we can better organize the coexistence between them and your friend.

​

In the farmhouse we grow dyeing plants, we spin local wool, we dye fabric and yarn in natural fibres using only flowers, leaves, herbs and roots, according to a very ancient craft tradition. You can buy our products and have fun with our courses to learn the natural dyeing technique.

The farmhouse offers two accomodations: a small studio for two with kitchen, and a roomy flat for four.

The mini apartment on the Umbrian hills has everything you need for a quiet holiday in nature:

You will find vintage linens with handmade embroidery and lace; handmade herbal soap; full kitchen with everything you need to clean and cook, such as condiments, coffee, sugar… always fresh and tidy.

You can eat or relax outdoor with benches, deck chairs and tables.​

Guado takes its name from Woad, one of the very few plants giving blue dye pigment, traditionally grown in these lands in the Middle Ages.

The Ginestra room overlooks the hills and the garden.

The large bed in iron and painted wood, the mirror and the dresser are handmade, the crystal lights and the wooden dressing table recall the grandmother’s old houses, scented with lavender and drawers full of tiny treasures.
I have juxtaposed some mirrors and a copper cauldron, which together with the bar and the wooden hangers form a wardrobe corner to keep and choose your clothes and accessories.
As in the whole house, the textiles are in vintage linen and cotton, hand embroidered and with lace in full “old times” style; the naturally wrinkled texture of linen, the fresh and smooth surface of cotton, the large and soft cushions make your rest pleasant and comfortable.
Ginestra is named after the Mediterranean shrub of broom tree, with thin twigs and yellow flowers, widespread in our hot climates and present in abundance in the garden: it is a dyeing plant that gives yellow and green colors.

The Robbia room can be set up with two single beds or a double bed.
It overlooks the fields and the rear garden.

The retro iron beds can be combined to form a double or divided into two separate single beds; in both cases the vintage cotton linen, the linen bedspreads in earthy colours, the paper lampshades and the large ancient chest testify to the authentic life of a country house.
Even the drawers, the mirror and the bedside tables are original from the old farmhouse, to which I added a current personality with the long bamboo canes and the wall hanger. The desk is a bright corner for reading or, if you like, writing a postcard again by hand as it once was.
Robbia takes its name from Madder, one of the most important dyeing plants of our territory which for millennia has offered us the most beautiful and lively red pigment in nature.

In the flat you will find vintage linens; handmade herbal soap; everything you need to prepare and taste a warm cappuccino or a relaxing infusion, with coffee, tea,sugar… always fresh and tidy. There isn’t a full kitchen but the essentials for breakfast.

The high ceilings with old beams and bricks, the terracotta floors, the large fireplace and the country-style furniture are authentic of the old farmhouse.
The view is open on the fields and hills, with olive trees, cypresses, fruit trees. In the morning the song of a thousand birds will wake you up and in the evening cicadas and crickets will accompany your rest.

Herbarium is a registered accomodation in the Municipality of Castiglione del Lago. The administration requires a tourist tax of € 0.80 per person per day up to the 5th day of stay. Children under 14 are exempted. The tax must be paid in cash upon arrival.
Depending on the reservation method chosen (web portal / direct booking) the stay must be paid in full at the time of booking (web portal: AirBnb, Vrbo…) or a 50% deposit on direct booking (bank transfer, Paypal, Postepay) + balance on the day of arrival (cash, Paypal, Postepay).
Upon arrival, you will be asked to provide a valid identity document to fulfill the obligation to register with the tourist-statistical portal of the Region.
